Air Duct Cleaning in Chicago, IL

Honest, Whole-System Air Duct Cleaning for Cleaner Indoor Air

Your air ducts circulate the air your family breathes all day, and over the years they fill with dust, allergens, pet dander, and debris. Since indoor air can be two to five times more polluted than outdoor air, cleaning that buildup makes a real difference in your home’s comfort and health.

Browns Heating & Cooling has cleaned Chicago’s air ducts since 2016 with transparent, flat-rate pricing and a BBB A+ rating. We clean your entire system the right way, and we’ll never lure you in with a fake $49 special and upsell you on arrival. Our work is backed by hundreds of five-star customer reviews.

Whether you’ve just moved in, finished a remodel, or simply can’t remember your last cleaning, our EPA-certified technicians leave your ducts genuinely clean.

Why Chicago homeowners clean their ducts with us:

  • Whole-system cleaning: vents, returns, blower, and registers, not just a few vents
  • Source-removal method: agitation plus high-powered vacuum extraction
  • Transparent, upfront pricing: no bait-and-switch, no surprise upsells
  • Cleaner air: removes dust, allergens, mold spores, and pet dander
  • Better efficiency: clean systems can lower energy use 10–20%
  • Residential & commercial: homes, condos, and businesses citywide

Why Air Duct Cleaning Matters

Dirty ducts affect both your health and your wallet. Dust, pollen, pet dander, and mold spores collect in your ductwork and get recirculated through every room each time your system runs.

That buildup also strains your HVAC system. Dirt and debris are behind the majority of HVAC breakdowns, and a clogged system has to work harder, which raises your energy bills and shortens equipment life. Cleaning restores airflow and efficiency.

For homes with pets, allergy sufferers, or anyone sensitive to air quality, clean ducts can meaningfully reduce the irritants circulating indoors, and they pair well with an air purifier for the healthiest possible air.

Signs You Need Your Air Ducts Cleaned

Most homes show clear signs when it’s time for a cleaning. Consider professional duct cleaning if you notice:

  • Visible dust puffing from vents when the system starts
  • A musty or moldy smell when heating or cooling runs
  • Worsening allergies or unexplained respiratory irritation
  • Excess dust settling on surfaces soon after cleaning
  • Signs of rodents or insects in or around your ductwork
  • A recent remodel that sent construction dust through the system
  • No record of the ducts ever being cleaned

If any of these sound familiar, our technicians can inspect your system and show you exactly what’s inside before recommending anything.

Our Whole-System Cleaning Process

We clean using the source-removal method recommended by the National Air Duct Cleaners Association, the industry standard for genuinely clean ducts.

Our technicians run a positive-pressure agitation tool through each vent to loosen settled dust and debris, while a high-powered vacuum applies negative pressure to pull that debris completely out of the system at the same time. This combination is what actually removes contaminants, rather than just stirring them around.

Crucially, we clean the whole system, not just the visible vents. That means every supply and return, plus the furnace blower, fan blades, and registers where debris collects. We finish by installing a fresh filter and leaving your home spotless, vacuuming up after ourselves before we go.

Beware the $49 Duct Cleaning Scam in Chicago

Chicago has one of the highest concentrations of bait-and-switch duct-cleaning operators in the country, and local news has investigated $49 and $99 “whole-house” specials that balloon into hundreds of dollars on arrival, often with only a fraction of the vents actually cleaned.

Because Illinois doesn’t require a state HVAC license, credentials and reputation are your best protection. We’re EPA-certified, BBB A+ accredited, and we quote a transparent, upfront price for the full scope of work, so the number we tell you on the phone is the number you pay.

If a price sounds too good to be true, it usually is. Our commitment to honest customer service is the whole reason Chicago homeowners trust us with their homes.

A Note for Chicago’s Older Homes

Chicago’s classic housing stock needs extra care. The city’s roughly 80,000 pre-war brick bungalows, along with many vintage two-flats and greystones, can have original ductwork that occasionally includes asbestos-wrapped components.

Asbestos-containing materials must never be disturbed by standard cleaning, so our technicians assess older systems first and recommend the right specialist if we find anything that needs professional abatement. It’s part of cleaning safely, not just thoroughly, and it’s why our older-home HVAC expertise matters in this market.

Residential & Commercial Air Duct Cleaning

We clean ducts for every kind of Chicago property. Our residential service refreshes the air in houses, condos, and townhomes, removing the allergens and dust that build up over years of daily use.

For businesses, our commercial duct cleaning keeps offices, retail spaces, and facilities healthier and helps their HVAC systems run efficiently. Whatever the size of the system, we clean it to the same whole-system standard.

Duct Cleaning vs. Duct Sealing: Which Do You Need?

These two services solve different problems, and many homes benefit from both. Cleaning removes the dust and debris inside your ducts, while sealing closes the leaks that let conditioned air escape and pollutants in.

The ideal sequence is to clean first, then seal. Once your system is clean, our Aeroseal duct sealing locks in efficiency and air quality by sealing leaks from the inside out. If your ducts are damaged or disconnected, our ductwork repair team handles that too.

A Reputation Built on Trust and Quality

I called Browns late Tuesday during a heatwave, and they were able to schedule a service appointment for the next day. The service call cost $125, but that amount goes towards any repair cost if needed so the initial call is essentially free if you need service costing more than $125.

The techs arrived exactly on time at the start of the appointment window, and quickly found the issues (dirty condenser coils, refrigerant top-off, and system sealant to address the small leak). Ramond clearly explained the impact of each along with the cost to fix, then confirmed which services I wanted and what my total would be before starting the work. I also appreciate that Ramond answered all my dumb questions about how air conditioning actually works; he's a great science teacher 🤓.

The cost was less than I expected for a next-day service (coil cleaning $239, sealant $285, and a few pounds of refrigeratant was $370).

During the payment process, the tech didn't prompt for a tip, unlike most companies. So don't forget to ask them for their Zelle/Venmo if you want to send a tip
Quick responses from a professional company. Although it was peak season for AC’s, they were able to send a crew over within 24-hours. This was so critical for us with 3 young kids in the house and the temps rising to 85 degrees.

Angelique on the phone gave clear instructions on what I needed to do before the service guys showed up. Ramod & Eric were courteous and wore shoe covers as they entered the house. They took a quick look and knew what needed to be done immediately.

As a Realtor, I’ve changed many an AC units and their prices were very fair. We ended up repairing instead of a new AC unit. The repair was less than what he originally quoted. How is that for honest service?! Amazing!

They will have to come back for a service ($99) as we ran out of time.

I can highly recommend Browns Heating & Cooling without any hesitation.

Obsessed 10/10. So friendly, really responsive company, cute service techs (big plus haha), honest, fast and reliable. They were literally here the next day. Love them, hate my 30 year old furnace.

Highly recommend these guys. We had a cooling issue, and Steven was here and gone in under an hour. He pointed out the issue and repaired it without talking much.

Highly recommend them! We needed a whole house humidifier because the winter air was making everyone in the house feel sick. The installation was very clean, and they tied it right into the water line without any leaks or issues. The technician showed me how to adjust the humidity level based on the temperature outside, so we don't get condensation on the windows. It's made the house feel much more comfortable, and my skin isn't nearly as dry as it used to be. I’m happy with the service.

I decided to upgrade to a Nest thermostat and scheduled the installation with this company. The technician arrived on time and installed the thermostat quickly. He also walked me through the settings and showed me how to control it through the phone app. The system now adjusts the temperature automatically during the day, which is convenient. It has made managing the indoor temperature much easier. The team from Brown’s handled the installation smoothly and made sure everything was working before leaving.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does air duct cleaning cost in Chicago?

A thorough, whole-system air duct cleaning typically costs more than the $49–$99 “specials” you’ll see advertised, because those rarely clean the full system. We give you one transparent, upfront price for cleaning everything, with no surprise charges on arrival.

How often should air ducts be cleaned?

NADCA recommends every three to five years, and every two to three years is wise in Chicago’s demanding climate. Clean sooner if you have pets, allergies, smokers, or recent remodeling, or if you notice mold or pests.

Is air duct cleaning worth it?

Yes, when it’s done properly. A genuine whole-system cleaning removes allergens and debris, improves airflow, and can lower energy use, since dirt buildup causes most HVAC breakdowns. The key is hiring a company that cleans the entire system, not just a few vents.

How long does duct cleaning take?

Most homes between 2,000 and 3,000 square feet take about two to five hours with one or two technicians, depending on system size, accessibility, and how much buildup is present.

Does duct cleaning make a mess?

No. Our source-removal method uses sealed negative-pressure vacuums to contain debris, and we clean up fully before leaving, often vacuuming the area around each vent.

Can I clean my air ducts myself?

You can vacuum and wipe down vent covers, but the ductwork itself needs professional equipment to clean safely and thoroughly. DIY attempts often miss the deep buildup and can damage the ducts.
