Aeroseal Duct Sealing in Chicago, IL

Seal Hidden Duct Leaks, Lower Your Bills, and Even Out Every Room

If your energy bills keep climbing, some rooms never get comfortable, and you feel drafts you can’t explain, the culprit is often hidden inside your walls: leaky ductwork. The average home loses 20 to 30% of its heated and cooled air through duct leaks before it ever reaches a room.

Browns Heating & Cooling fixes that with Aeroseal, a computer-controlled duct sealing technology that seals leaks from the inside out. Since 2016, we’ve been Chicago’s trusted, EPA-certified, BBB A+ rated HVAC team, and our customers consistently rate us five stars.

Aeroseal reaches the hidden leaks that hands and tape never can, sealing up to 95% of them in a few hours, with no demolition and a verified before-and-after report.

Why Chicago homeowners seal their ducts with Aeroseal:

  • Lower energy bill: stop paying to heat and cool your attic
  • Even temperatures: eliminate hot and cold rooms
  • Cleaner indoor air: keep dust, allergens, and pollutants out
  • No mess, no demolition: sealed from inside the ducts
  • Verified results: a printed report shows your leakage before and after
  • $400 instant rebate: most Chicago-area homes qualify

What Is Aeroseal Duct Sealing?

Aeroseal duct sealing is a computer-controlled process that seals leaks in your ductwork from the inside, using a non-toxic aerosolized sealant. Instead of hunting for leaks by hand, the system pressurizes your ducts and lets the sealant find and close the gaps automatically.

Unlike traditional sealing with mastic or foil tape, which can only reach exposed, accessible ductwork, Aeroseal seals leaks hidden behind walls, ceilings, and floors. It’s recommended by the EPA and U.S. Department of Energy as one of the most effective ways to cut home energy waste.

The result is a duct system that delivers the air you’re paying for directly to your rooms, instead of losing it inside your home’s structure.

How Aeroseal Works

Aeroseal follows a precise, measurable process so you can see exactly what you’re paying for.

First, our technician covers your vents and registers and pressurizes the duct system, then runs a baseline test that measures your home’s current leakage. Larger gaps are patched by hand first, since Aeroseal is designed for the small and medium leaks that make up most duct loss.

Next, the aerosolized sealant is released into the pressurized ducts. As the air rushes toward each leak, the sealant particles collide with the leak edges and stick, building up to close the gap from the inside. Our software tracks your leakage rate in real time, so you watch the number drop as it works.

When it’s done, you get a printed verification report showing your before-and-after leakage, proof the job sealed up to 95% of your leaks. The whole process is non-invasive and typically finished in a few hours.

Aeroseal vs. Traditional Duct Sealing

The difference comes down to reach. Manual sealing with mastic or foil tape only works on ductwork a technician can physically see and access, usually exposed runs in a basement or attic.

Aeroseal seals the entire system, including the hidden leaks deep inside walls and ceilings that manual methods simply can’t reach. Because the process is measured and computer-verified, you get proof of the result rather than a best guess. The sealant is also durable, holding up for 10 years or more.

For ducts with large gaps, disconnected sections, or damage, manual repair is still the right first step, which is why we inspect your ductwork and handle any major repairs before sealing.

Aeroseal vs. Air Duct Cleaning: What's the Difference?

These two services are often confused, but they solve different problems. Air duct cleaning removes dust, debris, and buildup from inside your ducts, while Aeroseal seals the leaks that let conditioned air escape and contaminants in.

Many Chicago homeowners do both together: clean first to clear the system, then seal to lock in efficiency and air quality. If your ducts are also dusty, start with our air duct cleaning in Chicago, then seal them with Aeroseal for the best result.

The Benefits of Sealing Your Ducts

Sealing your ducts delivers benefits you feel immediately and savings you see for years.

Most homeowners save 20 to 30% on heating and cooling costs once their ducts are sealed, since the system no longer wastes energy pushing air into walls and crawlspaces. Comfort improves just as fast, with even temperatures across every room and stronger airflow to areas that always felt neglected.

Sealed ducts also keep dust, allergens, and pollutants out of your air for a healthier home, and they reduce strain on your HVAC system, which means less wear and a longer equipment lifespan. In homes with gas appliances, properly sealed ducts also help prevent dangerous combustion gases from being drawn back into living spaces.

Signs Your Ducts Are Leaking

Leaky ducts are hidden, but the symptoms are easy to spot. Consider Aeroseal if you notice any of these:

  • High energy bills: leaks can waste up to 30% of your system’s output
  • Uneven temperatures: some rooms never get warm or cool enough
  • Excess dust: leaky ducts pull in and circulate dust and allergens
  • Worsening allergies: pollutants entering the ducts reach every room
  • A system that runs constantly: your HVAC strains to cover the losses
  • Weak airflow: far rooms and registers that barely deliver air

If any of these sound familiar, our technicians can measure your duct leakage and show you exactly where you’re losing air.

Why Duct Sealing Matters in Chicago Homes

Chicago’s housing makes duct sealing especially worthwhile. Many local homes have older sheet-metal ductwork with seams that were never fully sealed, or aging ducts that have loosened over decades of expansion and contraction.

Add Chicago’s punishing winters and humid summers, and every bit of leaked air gets expensive fast. A home losing a quarter of its conditioned air is effectively paying for months of heating and cooling it never receives.

Sealing those leaks is one of the highest-return upgrades a Chicago homeowner can make, and it pairs perfectly with older-home HVAC upgrades and routine system maintenance to keep efficiency high year-round.

Rebates, Cost & Financing

Most Chicago-area homes qualify for a $400 instant rebate on Aeroseal duct sealing, so you save on the service and start lowering your energy bills right away. Your final cost depends on your home’s size, duct layout, and how much leakage we find during testing.

We’ll explain everything upfront with flat-rate pricing and no surprises. Ask us to check additional Chicago HVAC rebates you may qualify for, and explore flexible financing to spread the investment over time.

A Reputation Built on Trust and Quality

I called Browns late Tuesday during a heatwave, and they were able to schedule a service appointment for the next day. The service call cost $125, but that amount goes towards any repair cost if needed so the initial call is essentially free if you need service costing more than $125.

The techs arrived exactly on time at the start of the appointment window, and quickly found the issues (dirty condenser coils, refrigerant top-off, and system sealant to address the small leak). Ramond clearly explained the impact of each along with the cost to fix, then confirmed which services I wanted and what my total would be before starting the work. I also appreciate that Ramond answered all my dumb questions about how air conditioning actually works; he's a great science teacher 🤓.

The cost was less than I expected for a next-day service (coil cleaning $239, sealant $285, and a few pounds of refrigeratant was $370).

During the payment process, the tech didn't prompt for a tip, unlike most companies. So don't forget to ask them for their Zelle/Venmo if you want to send a tip
Quick responses from a professional company. Although it was peak season for AC’s, they were able to send a crew over within 24-hours. This was so critical for us with 3 young kids in the house and the temps rising to 85 degrees.

Angelique on the phone gave clear instructions on what I needed to do before the service guys showed up. Ramod & Eric were courteous and wore shoe covers as they entered the house. They took a quick look and knew what needed to be done immediately.

As a Realtor, I’ve changed many an AC units and their prices were very fair. We ended up repairing instead of a new AC unit. The repair was less than what he originally quoted. How is that for honest service?! Amazing!

They will have to come back for a service ($99) as we ran out of time.

I can highly recommend Browns Heating & Cooling without any hesitation.

Highly recommend these guys. We had a cooling issue, and Steven was here and gone in under an hour. He pointed out the issue and repaired it without talking much.

Highly recommend them! We needed a whole house humidifier because the winter air was making everyone in the house feel sick. The installation was very clean, and they tied it right into the water line without any leaks or issues. The technician showed me how to adjust the humidity level based on the temperature outside, so we don't get condensation on the windows. It's made the house feel much more comfortable, and my skin isn't nearly as dry as it used to be. I’m happy with the service.

I decided to upgrade to a Nest thermostat and scheduled the installation with this company. The technician arrived on time and installed the thermostat quickly. He also walked me through the settings and showed me how to control it through the phone app. The system now adjusts the temperature automatically during the day, which is convenient. It has made managing the indoor temperature much easier. The team from Brown’s handled the installation smoothly and made sure everything was working before leaving.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does Aeroseal duct sealing cost in Chicago?

Aeroseal cost depends on your home’s size, duct layout, and leakage, and most Chicago-area homes qualify for a $400 instant rebate. We measure your ductwork and give you upfront, flat-rate pricing before any work begins, with financing available.

How long does Aeroseal take?

Most residential Aeroseal jobs are completed in a few hours. The process is non-invasive, with no demolition, and you can see your leakage drop in real time as the system seals.

How much can I save on energy bills?

Most homeowners save 20 to 30% on heating and cooling costs after sealing, because the system stops losing conditioned air through leaks. The savings often pay back the investment within a few years.

Is Aeroseal better than manual duct sealing?

For most homes, yes. Aeroseal reaches hidden leaks behind walls and ceilings that manual mastic or tape can’t, seals up to 95% of leaks, and gives you a verified before-and-after report. Manual sealing is still used first for large or accessible gaps.

How long does the Aeroseal sealant last?

Aeroseal’s sealant is engineered to last 10 years or more without failing, so a single sealing keeps working for the long haul.

Is duct sealing the same as duct cleaning?

No. Cleaning removes dust and debris from inside your ducts, while sealing closes the leaks that waste energy and let pollutants in. Many homeowners do both together for the best efficiency and air quality.
